Have you ever found yourself in a wardrobe rut?
Well, I recently came to an epiphany that I wasn't exactly putting my best foot forward. I found myself throwing on clothing simply because they were convenient and then running out of the door to class. But, I personally feel that there has to be a way to be chic and a college student. So, I decided to embark on the quest of achieving my dream wardrobe and forcing myself to wear the items in my closet I love but often "save" for the perfect time. After all, everyday is a reason to dress in your best.

Part Une:
I needed to purge my closet. I often purge items from my wardrobe a few times a year, but this past week I did it BIG. I gave myself a few rules to follow just to assist in making harsh decisions. I was brutal to the items that didn't make the cuts but I feel absolutely fabulous about my partings. These were the guidelines that worked for me and if you feel inspired to do the same, I hope they help you some, too!
1.
Is it flattering? No? -Donate.
Whether it is out of style or isn't your size anymore, there is no need to keep it in your closet taking up valuable space. Part with it and move on.
2.
Is this piece in good condition?
Sometimes how we feel about the article of clothing can overshadow how well it actually looks. I know I'm guilty of keeping clothing simply because of what they remind me of, like outfits I wore on beautiful winter vacations to summery South America, but I have wonderful photographs and much more beautiful memories then the worn out clothing I was keeping. I also recommend trying anything on that you are considering keeping as it limits you to only keeping what you truly love and looks great. I promise it's worth the time and effort, and the new and improved you will thank you for it.
Last, but probably the most effective one for me.
3.
If you haven't wore it in a year, it's out!
This one helped the most with pieces I had trouble parting with that fit well and were in great condition. I had shirts, pants, coats, hats etc.. that were in great condition but I never wore them because either I favored other options OR something about them I wasn't comfortable with. Luckily for my teenage cousin, she got most of my good quality hand me downs.
So, with that out of the way, I wish you luck in your closet endeavours and remember quality over quantity!
