Salute Your Shorts! DIY American Flag Shorts

Happy Fourth of July!

I know it might be a little late for you to make them to wear tonight, but I have a feeling that these shorts aren't just for the 4th of July. The Americana trend is hot right now, and so I decided to jump on the bandwagon make my own DIY flag shorts. ha.

I was inspired by the ones Kylie Jenner is wearing in the picture above, and I believe they are by Runwaydreamz... here's a better picture.

You will need:

1. Shorts: Got mine at Goodwill for dirt cheap. Less than 3 bucks. Can't beat that.
2. Star stickers: Michaels had a sale on stickers right now. random.
3. Fabric paint: also at Michaels, they were a dollar and change each.
4. Scissors
5. Brushes. Hard Bistle and an fine angled brush.
Paper plate to put your paint and a towel for the floor.

Remember that your working with fabric paint and it won't come out of clothes, so wear something you craft/paint in.

Ok. So this is what I did in a nutshell.

1.

Cut your shorts and wash them.

2.

Tape where you don't want the paint to be.

3.

Lay tape for stripes down with 1'' tape on right side (left side when you're wearing them)

4.

Measure and add stars to the left side. (right side when you're wearing them)

5.

Apply blue paint. (I used metallic paints, and it looks awesome)

6.

Take out every other tape strip and add red paint and let it dry to the touch.

7.

Once dry, remove the stars and switch the tape back on the red stripes to paint the white stripes.

With an angled brush I filled in the stars on the blue side.

Let the whole thing dry overnight. Read the instructions on the back of the paint for washing. Mine says 72 hours before I can wash them so that is what I am doing.

In the morning you can remove all the other blue tape and reveal your new shnazzy pair of star spangled shorts!

TA-DAH!

Here is a picture I Instagramed earlier of me wearing them. (find me @DISCOairglow)

Hope you have a great holiday!

Summer Weddings: Ensemble Une

Wedding season is fast approaching and we need to be prepared. I know how it is to suddenly realize that you have a wedding to attend this weekend and you haven't prepared yourself with what you're wearing.

Here is a chic early summer/ beach wedding option that would be perfect for that breezy ceremony to cool reception. You'll look effortlessly put together with a little Gucci and Pucci as you toast with champagne, and nonchalant when the bouquet falls at your feet and you pretend not to see it. ;)

I'll leave you with some words of wisdom. It's inevitable at weddings to hear some quacky lady feeling pity for the poor single girl and say "always the bridesmaid never the bride," which is when I kindly remind them it's better than "never the bridesmaid, always the bride."

It shuts them up every time.

But if you're neither, congratulations! Just enjoy a fabulous party.

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY

SO I CAN FINISH MY PAINTING PROJECTS!

It's been raining everyday for the past two weeks here in Florida. I think that might be normal but since I've never lived in Florida before, it's becoming a nuisance.

So instead of painting I went shopping.

 Go figure.

At my local favorite thrift store they were having 50% off all furniture so I stocked up on a few large pieces and gave me an opportunity to get rid of some old ones of Craigslist. Double score.

I really want to finish those bookshelves as I am sick of looking at them with just the primer. They look so pitiful!

In beauty news, I purchased the Revlon Kissable Balm Stain and they are some POWERFUL little things. I got the color Lovesick which has a few purple undertones which are OK, but the pigmentation and texture has me wanting to try out the other colors.

In nerdy news, I also recently purchased a book called Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki which has revolutionized my mind. If you like finance and economic books that are easy reads, I recommend you pick it up.

That's it.

Good story, right?

Ugh!

I'm Alive!

Yes, I know you thought I might have been dead, but in fact I am still alive.
It was definitely a rough week as you could probably tell by my last post, but I'm back and ready for another beating!

Round 2

::ding::

What?

This is just me,  hanging out at the gym ready to fight.

Oh it's not?

... Oh.

Well, let me get on that then.

Happy middle-of-the-week-it's-almost-the-weekend  Day!

Rock it out!

Ever Have One of Those Days?

Ever have one of those days...

Where you need heavy retail therapy? ...

Like, serious Carrie Bradshaw can't pay her rent cause she maxed out her credit card at Barney's retail therapy?

One of those day where after that you want to go to the spa and get a massage, facial, a mani/pedi and want your hair cut and colored?

ahhh, I definitely need a facial soon.

One of those days where after the spa you want to put on your new shoes, new cocktail dress and call your girlfriends to go out... to some fabulous event and drink champagne.

Today was one of those days.

I, of course, responsibly restrained myself but do like to treat myself a little and it always makes me feel better.
Unfortunately, my girlfriends are miles away and do miss them dearly, but I'm glad that just taking a little time to myself and reevaluating things makes all the difference in making my day better.

Hope you're not having one of these, but if you are...

 I'm with you, sister.
